This is a disturbing picture of a potentially dangerous situation in action.
See the black spot in the center? That’s actually the top of a little girl’s head. At first, she looks like she’s swimming.
But in reality, she’s being carried away by the current.
Luckily, she was able to keep waving her arms, and a lifeguard spotted her from the shore.
The lifeguard’s name was Terry.
Coincidentally, it wasn’t long before this that Terry saved a child in a very similar situation. The child was rescued but later died in hospital.
He couldn’t have saved the first child, but he was determined that the stars would align so he could save this little girl.
He put her on his board so she could catch her breath while they went to shore. This little one was saved just in the nick of time.
The girl was very shaken up, but ultimately, she came out okay. If not for this lifeguard, who knows what would have happened?
From the time he spotted her to the time she was returned to her mom at the shore, the entire thing took about 60 seconds. In the world of ocean lifeguards, that’s all you need to save a life.
